This study was motivated by the learning difficulties still experienced by elementary school students in Indonesian language learning, particularly in reading and writing skills. This study aims to analyze the reading and writing difficulties experienced by third-grade students at SD Aisyiyah Lubuklinggau. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving 22 third-grade students as research subjects. Data were collected through observations and interviews with students and the classroom teacher. The results showed that 15 out of 22 students, or 68.18%, experienced difficulties in reading and/or writing, while 7 students, or 31.82%, did not experience significant difficulties. The reading difficulties included difficulty spelling, combining letters into syllables and words, reading unfamiliar words, and pronouncing and distinguishing vowels and consonants. The students also tended to read haltingly and had limited vocabulary. In writing, the students experienced difficulties in using uppercase and lowercase letters, applying punctuation marks, producing complete and neat writing, and completing writing tasks within the allotted time. Reading difficulties, particularly among students who still relied on spelling, also contributed to slower writing performance. Therefore, continuous guidance and practice, supported by appropriate learning methods and instructional media, are needed to improve students' reading and writing skills according to their individual learning needs.
