Abstract

Early reading is a crucial foundation for academic fluency among lower-grade students in Elementary Schools (SD) and Islamic Elementary Schools (MI). However, the learning process often faces challenges such as low motivation and high student boredom when relying solely on conventional methods. This study aims to analyze the trend of utilizing interactive learning media to improve early reading skills among SD/MI students. The method used is a descriptive literature review by selecting and synthesizing 15 ISSN national journal articles published between 2021 and 2025. The results indicate that current dominant interactive media innovations can be classified into three main clusters: (1) educational game-based media/gamification (such as Wordwall and Kahoot!), (2) audio-visual and interactive multimedia, and (3) mobile application-based and hybrid technology media (AR and smartphones). These three clusters are empirically proven to be effective in stimulating students' multisensory aspects, reducing learning anxiety, and accelerating the understanding of phonemes into syllables. In conclusion, the integration of various interactive media is highly relevant in supporting the differentiated learning principles within the Kurikulum Merdeka (Independent Curriculum), where teachers can align learning instruments with students' visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learning styles.
